Substantial Internet Failure Impacts Many Sites and Applications
A large-scale web outage has impacted numerous online platforms and apps worldwide, as users experiencing problems getting online due to difficulties at the online infrastructure platform.
The disrupted services comprise Snapchat, the gaming platform Roblox, the messaging service Signal, and Duolingo, as well as a host of Amazon-managed operations like its main retail site and the Ring home security firm.
In the UK, Lloyds bank was disrupted as well as its subsidiaries Halifax and the Scottish bank, while there were further notifications of issues using the HMRC website on the start of the week. The ripple effect appeared to disrupt services globally, and the Downdetector site showing problems with the same sites in multiple continents.
Cisco’s Thousand Eyes, a tool that tracks web disruptions, additionally noted a surge in issues on the start of the week, with many of them found in the state of Virginia, the region of the AWS US-East-1 zone where the company stated the issues started.
