One police sergeant that leaped to the aid of a colleague who was ambushed by a blade-wielder was granted the Royal Recognition for Courage.

Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a weapon to the throat of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the law enforcement personnel and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist following a road collision in the area in mid-2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a stun gun.

"Officer knifed," the officer was heard to say over his communication device.

Bodyworn and dashcam video shared by the force depicted Brown, who was dressed in black with a head covered, approach to Sergeant Foster from behind with a blade pointed forward.

He ran into the policeman who stumbled and dropped to the ground, after which Sergeant Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the ground although being repeatedly struck with the blade.

PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and sought a clear shot, ending the confrontation to an finish.

Sergeant Ansell stated audibly: "Please provide help on my neck here, I got knifed in the throat."

Sgt Ansell sustained two open wounds to his throat and more cuts to his limbs and torso, while Sgt Foster suffered knife wounds.

The department reported Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to control his colleague's bleeding prior to emergency responders arrived.

This most recent honor comes after the trio of policemen were granted internal Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the regional union branch in early 2024.

They additionally received a North West Valor Recognition in summer 2024.

"The responses of all three officers in the end protected themselves and resulted in no civilians endured any wounds."

Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in April 2024, per authorities.
